Don't worry if you don't have an upright piano for practice. You can purchase an inexpensive keyboard that will serve the same purpose. Please check out musiciansfriend.com or walmart.com for some reasonable options. Practice Like many other skills/talents, piano and voice requires consistent practice. Of course, life is hectic and with school, activities, jobs and general obligations, and can be the most challenging part of committing to lessons! But, know that the more time you devote to practice, the faster you will progress towards reaching your goal! For beginners, try to set aside between 5-15 minutes a day for practice - Intermediate/advanced should practice around 30 minutes or more and of course - feel free to do more if you can! Materials Once we have established a student's level, I will order piano books specific to you or your student's needs. Usually books run between $18-$30 depending on the number of books ordered and the publisher. Voice I offer voice lessons for all levels of vocalists. Vocal lessons focus on warm-up and technique exercises that will improve a singer's tone, pitch matching ability, range and overall performance stamina. I use a variety of techniques including SLS (speech level singing - used by performers such as Kelly Clarkston, The Cheetah Girls, Michael Bolton, Christina Aguilera, etc) and traditional voice training. I have taught students over the last three years and am looking forward to offering more lessons this year. I help students prepare for auditions and college evaluations as well. Technique is the focus for at least the first 8-10 lessons and then we begin using a variety of songs to incorporate the technique and strengthen the voice. I use a mix of traditional vocal selections, pop, Broadway and eventually - Italian arias and art songs. If the student has a song that he/she is currently working on or already has several pieces that we can rehearse that is also acceptable. As part of vocal training, I also work with the student to learn how to sight-read music. This is very helpful in middle and high school for All-State auditions and generally makes for a much more well-rounded singer. I also offer a "tune-up" course of 8 weeks that can also help accomplished vocalists improve upon their sound and performance, or prepare for a major performance. Things to bring: It is not required, but an mp3 recorder, itouch, or hand-held tape recorder is a great way to re-visit your lesson for the week. To listen to your sound and to learn the subtle differences in correct sound and sound that is unsupported or incorrect. Recording each lesson helps students make much faster progress as ear training is an integral part of voice. Materials I have many selections that students can borrow each week, but I may need to purchase music for your student during lessons - pieces can range in cost from $4-$10 depending on the score. Songwriting: Songwriting can be a very subjective art; however, there are methods and structure to successful songwriting! Over the years, I have written many songs and attended several songwriting workshops. I would love to share your passion for writing and share what I have learned through the years, trial and error, and from speaking with the "pros." During songwriting classes, we will work on "formula" writing, creating a "lyrical visual" for the listener in only 3-4 lines, and...the most important part of a song "the hook." Payment Payment for each month of lessons is due on your/your child's first lesson. If you need a different payment plan, please let me know - I will work with you to come up with a payment plan that works best for you. NOTE: If you can't make a lesson due to scheduling or illness, please call me at both my home and cell phone # to let me know at least 6-8 hours before lessons. NO SHOWS (those who don't call me to reschedule or let me know they can't make it) will be charged for the missed lesson. Piano 1/2 hour lesson - $25.00 Voice 1/2 hour lesson - $25.00 Songwriting 1/2 hour lesson - $25.00 Students' siblings Discounts Lessons are $20/lesson for students' sibling, and $15/lesson for a third sibling. If you have a larger family, or if lessons will be a financial hardship, please contact me so we can work out a plan that will allow all children wanting to learn piano the opportunity to do so. Please note: if you are interested in taking a combination of lessons, there are discounts available for students that want both piano/voice or voice/songwriting, etc. Am excited about how well all my current students are doing! You guys are wonderful! Blessings, Holly Gotfredson mrsfred10@yahoo.com |
